Toyota Repair: smoke from tailpipe, excessive oil consumption, pvc valve

1997 camry,has 118000 miles on motor. car smokes at start up in the morning, has done this for last 2yrs. checked oil after oil change (1000 miles)used 2.5 guarts of oil. black smoke coming from tail pipe. really bad when you gas on it from a stop sign.could this be rings or pvc valve?do you think this car is worth fixing?

Answer
The most common cause for this excessive oil consumption and the smoke is that the valve seals are leaking, they need to be replaced, it can be done without removing the cylinder heads but still an expensive repair, about$1,000.
Depending if it's 4 or 6 cylinder.
