Toyota Repair: 98 camry alternator fuse replacement, fuse box, release tabs

Question
Hi Ted,

I have a 98 camry 4 cylinder (auto trans).  I accidentally installed a new car battery backwards and blew a few fuses, such as the alternator fuse (Type C 100a).  Now the power window, power locks, turn signals, radio, heater, wipers..etc won't work.  I can't shift the gear from park to drive either.  Are these malfunctions all due to the alternator fuse or am I looking at a more serious problem?  Also, I tried find help on how to replace the alternator fuse but it can't be pulled up freely like the type A alternators because it is screwed at the bottom.  Can I replace this myself with a regular toolkit or would I need specialized tools (in other words, send it to a garage)?   Thanks in advance!

Answer
This fuse supplies a lot of current to a lot of systems so it needs to be replaced first.
The holder that contains the fuse can be pulled out of the rest of the fuse box to get to the bolts that connect it, you have to look very closely for the release tabs and release them with a small screwdriver while pulling up on the holder, if you have no success doing this have the toyota dealer replace the fuse it may save you time and frustration because it's not as easy as it sounds.
