Toyota Repair: answer to your question about my 2002 rav 4, recommended interval, dextron ii

Question
2002 rav 4 4 door front wheel drive. i have not had the transmission fluid changed going on 2 years.and their has been no other attempt to fix this problem of double shifting into drive.do you think their is something wrong with the transmission? thanks for your quick response on my first question.

Answer
You didn't specify the mileage and it seems that this car is too new to have a transmission problem, also I don't know the mileage that was added in the two years since the fluid was changed.
30K miles is the recommended interval.
This transmission uses toyota type T-IV fluid, only available at the dealer level, if at the last time the fluid was changed and Dextron II or III or Mercon was used it is the cause of this problem, using those fluids will cause the transmission to slip and may cause permanent damage.
The best advise I have at this time is to get all the fluid out by using a transmission flush machine and installing the correct amount of the T-type IV fluid.
