Where is it located and do I have to drop the gas
tank to get to it?

Answer
I don't have a lot of information any more on cars this old but the fuel pump is located in the tank, disconnect the fuel filler tube and then remove the bolts on the straps that hold the tank in, support the tank with a jack and lower it down then you can accesss the fuel pump flange and remove all the 8mm bolts to get it out ouf the tank.
