Toyota Repair: Thanks-I really appreciate..., air impact wrench, high mileage car

Question
Thanks-I really appreciate your time-I do not foresee a problem getting the nut off the drive axle.  My biggest concern is the coil spring around the strut.  When I disconnect the strut from the Steering Knuckle, how do I get the coil spring back in place?  Is there a tool to hold it in place while I am working?

I did a little more research and heard mention of a split boot that can be laced onto the axle.  It is a high mileage car and not our primary means of transportation and I will probably only put another 20,000 miles on it in the next two years. What do you think of the split boot?
Thanks

I have 1992 Corolla Wagon.  The seal (not sure what the correct term is) closest to the front tire (not the one coming out of the transmission) that holds all the grease in it has split and needs to be replaced.  At first glance it looks like a fairly significant job.  Will the strut need to be removed?  What would be the steps involved in removing getting to it and replacing it?
Thanks for your time

Answer -
This is the outer CV boot, the drive axle has to be removed, the steering knuckle has to be removed from the strut, the axle nut will need to come off so that the axle can come out,it is extremely tight and requires an air impact wrench, not something you want to do at home unless you have the tools.

Answer
The spring doesn't have to be removed in order to get the steering knuckle off, just remove the two large bolts and nuts from the strut and it will move out of the way, the strut stays in place, I have no experience using the split boot so you may want to use it in this case rather than taking everything apart.
