Toyota Repair: Brake noise, brake noise, 5k miles

Question
We bought a used 2000 Seinna van with 80K miles on it last spring.  The salesman told me the front brakes were "new" but we quickly had shimmy in the front end when the brakes were applied.  I had the rotors machined and the problem went away for about 5K miles.  Then it came back so I replaced the rotors with new ones.  At the same time, I also replaced the front pads with new ones from Advanced Auto. Now the shimmy is gone but the front brakes are very noisey.(squeally like pad noise)  Could the noise be coming from the pads?  Should I have used Toyota pads?  If so, what kind.....metallic, ceramic, etc?  Thanks in advance for your quick reponse!

PS...has there been a history of brake problems in the Seinna's?

Answer
Yes, the noise is coming from the front brake pads.
Squeeking is mostly caused by either the material that the pads are made out of or more often than not because the anti-squeek shims were not put on and were not lubricated with antiseize or brake pad anti-squeek lubricant.
I suggest that you install factory toyota brake pads and make sure the factory original shims and anti- rattle hardware are installed, if they are installed correctly there will be no squeeking.
