Toyota Repair: 91 Tercel gets no spark..., haynes manual, 4speed

Question
I have a 91 Tercel EZ 4speed with the carbed engine that I bought from an auction. The car had been sitting for a really long time.  I get no spark at all at any of the plugs.  I replaced the plugs, distributor, and ignitor because I found them cheap.  I still get no spark. I bought a Haynes manual which is less then useful. I do relatively regular work on Honda's, so I know my way around a car pretty well... I just don't know enough about Toyotas to know the common problems.  As of now, the car will crank fine, but when I pull a plug and ground the side, I get nothing and the car never even chugs when it is turning over.

Thanks!
Ryan

Answer
Hello Ryan, welcome to my expert page.
I'm trying to remember what engine the 91 tercel has, I'm thinking it's the 3-SE, the distributor is driven off the camshaft so if the timing belt should break the distributor will not turn, and therefore no spark, remove the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is turning when cranking the engine.
