91-corolla . My fan quit, as did the cigarette lighter. The fuse is good. It only had 2 speeds prior to that (bought it used). Also, is there a special instruction to remove that panel from dash that has glove box in? I've removed all screws and it still seems to be attached. I can't get at the blower without removing it.
Thank you very much!

Hello Joan, welcome to my expert page.
Have you removed the right side kick panel there is a 10mm bolt under there that you need to remove to get the glove box out, the blower motor is held in from below with three 8mm screws.

Thank you. Also, how do I disconnect that relay thats behind the kick panel? Do you think I should replace that before attacking the fan? I removed the screw but how do I release the relay?

The relay almost never causes problems, there is a 10amp fuse near the relay which may have blown due to high current draw from the motor, while you are in there check the heater blower resistor, a part of it may also be burned up and this may be why there were only two speeds before, I think you should replace the fan motor and the resistor and the fuse.

Thank you Ted. Where is the resistor and what does it look like? The fuse is good.
I had the relay checked on a (voltage meter?) at radio shack, he just +&- each prong, the center prong+, would not register any reading, don't know if that was a valid test...what do you think? Do you think the cig.lighter quitting at the same time has any correlation to this problem?
I can find no bolt under there that holds the glovebox panel in. If I can't get that panel out, I don't think I'll be able to get the blower out.

Answer
The resistor is black in color and is mounted on the air duct near the blower fan housing, it has one or two small phillips screws holding it on, it has an electrical connector with some wires on it. Before you remove the fan motor try apllying voltage to it at the connector to see if it spins, look under the glove box you should see a connector on the motor that has two large wires on it(blue and red or blue and black)remove the connector, apply 12 volts to one side of the terminal and ground the other side, doesn't matter which side gets 12v or ground if the motor is good it will turn at high speed. I don't think the cig lighter is on the same circuit but not sure without a wiring diagram.
