Tractor Repair: Massey Ferguson 135, massey ferguson 135, lars chr

Question
I last week parked my tractor on the field. When I came back Yesterday it wouldn´t start. The relay was clicking, but it didn´t turn the engine. I put cables on to my car, and then it started. I drove for two hours, and when I stopped the engine, I had the same problem. What can be wrong? best regards Lars Chr.

Answer
It's possible that the battery has failed, the charging system is not charging the battery, or you have a bad connection on the battery cables.  If the battery is more than 5 years old, it should be replaced.  If it's not very old, it should be charged for a few hours and load tested.  Check the charging system of the tractor to see if it's charging the battery after the engine is started.  Battery cable connections must be clean and tight.  Replace any cables that have severely corroded battery post clamps.  Don't forget to check the connection where the ground cable attaches to the frame of the tractor.
