Tractor Repair: International 574 front crank seal, crankshaft pulley, international 574

Question
Hi I have a International 574 diesel (D-239 Neuss) with a front crank oil leak
(bad). my question is do I have to split the tractor between the the front axel
and engine to replace the seals, or can it be repaired without this split. Will a
seal kit be most likely all that is needed? Thank you for your time.

Answer
You will need to move the front axle away from the engine far enough to get the crankshaft pulley off and replace the seal.  If there isn't a groove worn into the pulley, a seal might be all you need.  If the sealing area has a groove worn into it, you will need to either put a wear sleeve onto the pulley or replace it.  Check the timing cover also for leaks before changing the seal, and if any leakage is found, remove the timing cover and replace the gasket.
