Tractor Repair: Case 695 Tractor Injector Pump, keyway, valve cover

Question
When I got the tractor the injector pump drive hub bolts were taken out.The previous owner thought that the pump was bad %26 started to remove it. As it turns out the pump was fine but the engine was turned over with the bolts out of the pump to gear hub. How do I verify the timing is correct.

Answer
It might be ok. pump should have a keyway. If the pump was not completely removed then you might be able to put in the bolts and try it. Otherwise you are going to have to take off the valve cover look at #1 cylinder and turn the engine over with a bar watch for the valve float between the intake closing and the exhaust opening that is top dead center #1. Then remove the cover on side of pump two screws and look for the two scribe marks in the pump they should match up. If they don't then turn the pump over till they do. Lock the pump down and it should fire up.
