Tractor Repair: international tractor, compression stroke, firing order

Question
hi i have international 350 ulitity tractor somewhere between the years on 1956-1958.  I am having trouble with the firing order because it had no plug wires when purchase.  i know the firing order on the cylinder head is 1-3-4-2. My question on that is that from front of engine to the back?   When I say front up by the radiator.  Also i know where NO.1 plug is located on the distribator cap.  And the rotor spins clockwise.  So is the cap order go 1-2-3-4 clockwise?   Or possible knowing where NO.1 is NO.2 90 degrees across from it.  So mostly what i am asking is whats the firing order on this tractor.  Hope this helps thanks

Answer
Hello,

The cylinders are numbered 1,2,3,4 from the front (radiator end), number one being the closest to the radiator.  As you said, the firing order is 1,3,4,2.  So if you know where the rotor is pointing when number 1 cylinder is at the top of the compression stroke, then put the wire for number 1 spark plug there.  If the rotor spins clockwise, then the wire in the next hole clockwise should go to number 3 cylinder.  Then the next hole clockwise from that should have the wire going to number 4 cylinder, and the next one clockwise from that should go to number 2 cylinder.  The wires should not go 1,2,3,4 clockwise around the cap.  They should go 1,3,4,2 clockwise around the cap.  You can verify when number 1 is on compression stroke by removing the spark plug and putting your finger over the hole and turning the engine by hand in the normal direction of rotation.  When you feel air trying to push your finger off of the hole, keep turning until that piston is at the top of the stroke.  Note where the rotor is pointing, then put the wire for number 1 spark plug in the corresponding hole in the distributor cap.
