Tractor Repair: Ford 4000 Stuck in gear, numerical side, shift fork

Question
I have a ford 4000 that fell dead while grabbin a load with the front end loader.  Once the tractor fell dead it would not come out of gear.  In an effort to free the tractor I pushed down on the gear shift and moved the tractor from 1 gear to neutral.  Upon restarting the tractor when the tractor is in high or low and neutral on teh numerical side the tractor moves.  When placed in 1 or 2 the tractor bogs down like something is wrong. I can not get the trator to go into 3rd, 4th, or reverse. It seems like the shifter is misaligned with the transmission or something is there a way to fix without taking to the shop?

Answer
Hello,

Either the bottom of the shift lever jumped out of the shift rail, or a shift fork or shift rail is broken.  The top cover of the transmission will have to be removed.  If nothing is broken, just pry the shift rail back to neutral and install the cover.  If something is broken, it will have to go to the shop.
