Tractor Repair: Roosa Master pump, throttle shaft, jd dealer

Question
Arnie, I have a JD 410 backhoe the throtle shaft is leaking not bad but bad enough. Does the shaft have a seal that I can replace? and can that leak cause it to loss prime? Or better to just live with it?

Answer
Hello,

There is a seal or o-ring on the throttle shaft that can be replaced, but I don't know where or if you can get the parts for it.  The last time I got parts for an injection pump from a JD dealer, they told me that JD would no longer be handling injection pump parts.  I would suggest calling a diesel injection repair shop and asking if you can get the parts to repair it yourself.  Don't be surprised if they tell you that you need to bring the pump in for service.  There may be other places to get parts, but I wouldn't know where since our shop does not do any injection pump repair.  It is possible that it is causing it to lose prime, but I can't say for sure because there are so many other things that can cause that problem.  Even a tiny air leak in a fuel line or fitting, or a bad check valve can cause it.
