Tractor Repair: lift cylinder, screw driver, thick wire

Question
Danny, A friend has a Ford 555C Backhoe. The lift cylinder gland nut is leaking. When you try to back off the gland Nut all it does is spin. Most are threaded. Each lift cylinder has what appears to be a spring or thick wire hanging out the bottom. How do you remove the gland Nut to replace the seal?

Answer
Mark you need to turn the gland nut around untill the end of the wire come into view using a thin screw driver lift up the end of the wire and turn the nut to feed the wire out of the hole and on the end of the wire you should have a hook so you can reverse the procedure to re install it.

Hope this helps you out let me know how you go with it Mark.

Kind Regards Danny Last
