Triumph Repair: Wheel Box Question, e mail address, wheel boxes

Question
QUESTION: I have a Factory Five Cobra and was told by a rep that the wiper system is from Lucas. I have a damaged wheel box and wonder if you can tell me where to buy either one, or if I have to, a set. The more I read about these wheel boxes I guess they are quite troublesome.  Any help or direction you can give me would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

ANSWER: Hi Al,

Most of the British car wiper wheel boxes were designed alike but may differ slightly between some of the different cars.

If you have it out of the car, take a picture of it and post it in this program and I will try to ID it. The wheel boxes are available from several sources depending on which one it is.

Generally they have a removable plate on the bottom that holds the cable and cable housing. The shaft has a sprocket that engages the cable which has a spiral coil around it and the teeth of the gear engage that coil of wire.

If that is how it is made it most likely is from one of the British cars.

QUESTION: Here's a picture.  Thanks!

Answer
Yes, that is a typical British car wheel box. Call Moss Motors at 1-800-667-7872 and ask for the tech department. Or an e-mail address for the tech department and ask if you can send that picture of the unknown wheelbox, but count the number of teeth on the gear. As I remember, I ran into some with a different number of teeth on the sprocket.

Let me know what they say.
