Triumph Repair: brake light, brake warning light, left hand drive

Question
QUESTION: hi, i have a v reg 1500 spit and i am looking for the wiring for the duel mass brake valve warning lamp. i can see one wire,(black and purple) coming from the valve, but it then disappears into the loom and i cant find it coming into the car by the fuse box. i also dont seem to have a bulb/holder behind the centre wood dash, although there is one for the s/belt warning. i have no switch at the h/brake lever,(i dont know if this is relevent), i have only just discovered this as i removed the dash for varnishing. thank you, glyn

ANSWER: Hi Glyn,

I have quit a few wiring diagrams for the Spitfire but I need to know what year it is. Is it right hand steering?

QUESTION: hi, its a 1979 v reg 1500 right hand drive, i dont think it has a s/belt warning buzzer but there is a loom for the s/belt warning lamp. there is no h/brake switch, it has a dual valve with a black/purple wire next to the battery, hope this helps, glyn

Answer
The only right hand drive diagram I had didn't have the dual brake warning light in it. I did find a diagram with a dual brake warning light with a black w/purple tracer wire in the circuit.
It is in a 78-on left hand drive car for countries other then the US and Canada.

The dual warning light system was just to tell a driver that there is more pressure in one circuit then the other. Working in Triumph, and MG dealerships. I noted that drivers were not usually very concerned about a red light on the dash. Their standard statement was

"Oh! there is a red light on my dash that I hadn't noticed before, I better ask about it the next time I am in for service"

However, when you loose pressure on one side of the brake system you loose half or more of your brake pedal. Almost every one says.

"Oh my gosh!, I have lost much of my brakes! I am sure to die! I better call the dealership right now or get the car hauled to the dealership to fix it"

So I believe to design and install a warning light to tell you that you have lost half your brake pedal is a large waste of time and money.

I have posted the diagram and the index to the diagram on my web site for you to copy.
