Triumph Repair: vacuum test, vacuum gauge, manifold vacuum

Question
Hi and thanks for your ongoing help!
"connect it to straight manifold vacuum " - does this mean the vacuum pipe on the distributor can be removed and replaced with a length of pipe to a vacuum gauge while i do the test at speed?? (Sorry - i told you my knowledge base was low! ;-)))

Answer
Look on the top of the intake manifold for any vacuum port and get a "T" connector when you pick up the gauge and the extra hose. connect the "T" to what ever hose comes off of the top of the intake manifold and connect your gauge hose to the branch of the "T" so what ever was being powered by that vacuum connection is still powered.

And yes, you must read the vacuum at the speed that it tops out at. (65 MPH as you said) You want to know what the intake manifold vacuum is at full throttle / full load.
