Triumph Repair: Triumph Tr6, low oil pressure, worn bearings

Question
Recently acquired a 1974 triumph tr6 what is the recommended motor oil for the engine and clutch fluid.

Answer
There is no one recommended oil these days; just opinions; I run Rotella when I've rebuilt and engine, and then change to synthetic after the rings seat;

Some people say you need the oil with zinc in it, some say not.  There is no real consensus.

What I would run would depend on the oil pressure I am seeing; if I see low oil pressures, then I would go with any full synthetic; the low oil pressure will almost always be from worn bearings, so the synthetic will offer some protection when the pressure it at its lowest.

With respect to hydraulic, most recommend you stay away from the newer DOT versions, and stick with classic DOT 3; you have to be concerned with what type of seals you have (OEM or aftermarket) and whether the fluid will break down the seal (rubber, viton, or some other material)

If you get on the TR6 and triumph forums, you can search for others opinions, as this has been debated many, many times in the past with no real consensus.  I would say any quality oil will suffice.
