Triumph Repair: 72 TR6 drive train, exhaust, driveshaft

Question
How do I get the drive shaft out of the car?? I just had the exhaust replaced with all welded joints--did I screw up???

Answer
Possibly.  Everyone runs their exhaust differently, so I don't know what is blocked and what isn't.  I'll list other ways you can try to extract.  The method of removing the drive shaft almost always involved pulling it out through the inside of the car, after removing the tunnel cover.

You need to create enough room to pull out the drive shaft.  You have to think through what you can and can't move to accomplish this.

- Unbolt the exhaust manifold, tilt the engine/trans forward, and remove the transmission, to remove the drive shaft.  Depending on how much you can tilt, you might not have to remove the transmission, if you can pull the shaft forward.
- The driveshaft has a sliding, splined yoke; if you have enough room to remove the yoke, there may now be enough room to get the rest of the drive shaft clear.
- Unbolting and dropping the differential, and attempting to remove the drive shaft rearward is a possibility; though I have never tried that one

And finally
- Cut the offending section of exhaust out, to allow you to remove or have the space you need.  Take that piece back to the exhaust place, and have them replace it with one that is longer, or make an additional piece as a extender, flare both ends to go over the unflared pipe still in the car, and use exhaust clamps to seal it.  Exhaust systems don't need to be completely welded, usually a slip fit of the pipe is enough to seal it enough to work.  Then use a clamp to prevent it from rattling around and/or shifting.
