Triumph Repair: carbs, float bowl, fuel pump

Question
I have a 65 Spitfire that I have recently starting repairing.  It needed a new fuel pump which I installed, and now runs.  However, I am still troubled by the carbs, though.  There seems to be a small amount of gas pooling on top of the front float bowl housing and I'm not sure where it's coming from.  Also, the car still runs rough and gulps gas.  I'm checking the timing tonight, but adjusting the carbs seems like a major effort.  Is there a quick and easy way to get them close to where they should be without taking the car to a shop?
Thanks

Jeff

Answer
jeff, i use to take the top part off the carb and just look down into it. you will see two brass circles. the smaller one is the main jet and the outer one is just the holder for it. the small one should be about 1/16 or a little more below the holder. that sets up the tapered needle to work enriching it. looking at it from the front of the carbs, there is a "piston" that you should be able to lift up with your finger. it should move up then drop easy by itself with no sticking. if you pull the choke you can see the jet drop way down and this gives you an idea of how it works.
