Question
Hallo Jim,
I have A Triumph spitfire 1500 When the engine runs free I can give full throttle and the engine reacts normally.
But when I start driving the car and I try full throttle he hesitates and wil drop out.
after that it keeps running on 2000tr/min.
then bij short allelerating in free gear it drops again to normal.
can you give me the basic settings of the carburator? or do You know whats wrong?
It is a California imported car but the air pump and tubes are removed.
greatings and thanks Lode Kiebooms

Answer
Lode,

It sounds like either a vacuum leak or the fuel mixture is set incorrectly.  Or that the needle valve in the float chamber is sticking.

The first thing to check would be all the piping associated with the airpump to make sure that there are no air leaks.

Another great idea would be to get a proper factory manual for the car.  Bentley Publishing does a reprint of the factory manual that should help you pin down what might be incorrectly connected.

Cheers,

Jim
