What is teh easiest ayt to change a backup switch on a 1978 Triumph spitfire 1500?

The easiest way is to pay someone to do the work, of course.  But I'm guessing that's not the answer you're looking for.

The reverse lamp switch on the single rail transmission is located just below the shift lever on the transmission tailshaft casting.  To access the switch you'll need to pull the center console and remove the carpet and transmission cover.  It also may help to remove the passenger seat to allow more room for pulling the transmission tunnel.

Then the switch should be in plain sight.
