Triumph Repair: cold start, dense air, cold start

Question
hi, in winter in order to start the car some times why does it take long time to start it. what could be the cause for any pariculer car.
thank you so much!

Answer
Well, without going into a bunch of science about dense air, an engine will need a lot more gas than air in the winter.on a carburator car the choke lets in a lot of fuel and closes off most of the air. if the choke is working it will start and run ok until the engine is warmed up then choke is not needed.if fuel injected an extra enjector sprays gas into the intake to get it started and then stops when the engine warms up.so i have heard people say a car is "cold natured" and doesn't act right when it's cold but if the choke or cold start injector is not working the problem is there. hope this helps Dave
