Question
hi, how are you? first of all i like to thank you for your free service and time.
Sir my question is,
how to check starter & starter relay. (weather there is a power or no and which auto electrical voltmeter should i use to check it) can you please also suggest any website where you can learn about auto electric and electrical troubleshooting.

thank you so much!

Answer
Asif, I could use a little more information like what kind of car you have, but i can still help. Is the starter separate from the solenoid/relay? is it on or off the car? on a negative ground car the positive cable from the battery will go to the starter bolt. there is a sol/relay that grounds it and makes it turn and fast!in other cases the pos. goes to the relay and then from the relay to the starter.without going in to a lot of other detail if you take the starter off most auto parts stores will check it for you. i take some jumper cables and a good battery, hook a cable from the negative post to a good place on the starter like where the bolt goes to mount it, then put the other one from the positive post and touch the post on the starter where the battery cable would go. it will spark so be careful.the starter should spin pretty strong. if it has a sol/relay you have to touch both of the posts at once and it will throw the sol/relay and also spin the starter.if you get a volt meter that reads DC volts even if it's a cheap one it'll do.ground it and touch the sol/relay . on one post should be 12 volts the other will have none. then when you turn the iginition switch.the other post should have 12 volts also if it does and the starter isn't turning then it could be a bad starter. if you need more info let me know what car you have.DM
