Triumph Repair: Cadillac wont start, cadillac seville, altenator

a month ago-my 1994 cadillac seville was low on gas- so it started jerking. i re fueled it then it wouldnt start. i charged the battery and it worked for two minutes. i replaced the battery and it was working fine for a whole month. now my car wont start. could it be the starter, engine,transmission or what. how much would this cost me? i need your help fast! thankx renee

Hi Renee, I answer Triumph questions but I have worked on other stuff..even a cadillac! I think you need the Alternator checked out. It charges the battery so if you put a new battery in it might start and run fine until the battery uses up it's charge and it will stop running the fuel pump and other things. the car sort of runs off the altenator and not the battery. prices for an altenator vary just call around. they might offer a new or rebuilt one and as long as you get some warranty either one will be ok.
