UK Car Repair: ford fiesta lx 1996, ford fiesta lx, oil filler cap

Question
I was looking at your Q&A regarding the engine cutting out when slowing down, breaking at junctions etc. I am having the same problems. It's an older car and when I brought it the mileage was about 90,000 but I had the fuel filter cleaned and that sorted it out for a month but today i drove around for a few hours, only local driving and as soon as the enging started to get a bit warmer, the engine sounded pretty strained to get into 2nd gear and then cut out 3 times on my journey home! this time the engine wouldnt automatically turn back on like it did before..i had to stop and start it. But i noticed on the answer before they mentioned it would probably always do this breaking with the clutch down, which is completely right in my case. But you also mentioned this throttle and idle speed..i don't know what that it? i only have a thermostat on my dashboard...

Can you help at all?! Much appreciated....

Answer
Sounds like the mixture is over rich or a loss of vacuum like in the other car...

Check all the under bonnet pipes (engine breather pipes) are not clogged with sludge and are properly connected and not leaking, same goes for the oil filler cap.

Then if that dosent sort it check the air filter is not clogged, if it is dirty change it to be sure - £8 if you shop around.

If still no joy have the error codes scanned (£20 max) at a local part shop or garage.
That will show up some error codes that will tell me what is wrong with it.
