UK Car Repair: 99 Corsa cut out problem, throttle position sensor, fuel air mixture

Question
QUESTION: Car starts fine, but when I have been driving for about 15 mins the engine
cuts out if the revs drop below 1500. If I am going fast enough I can drop it
down a gear to restart the engine. Otherwise I have to wait sometime & it
seems to reset itself & it will start again & run fine for about 15 mins. Any
ideas, very frustrated.

ANSWER: Hello Paul, your car's injection system runs in open loop for the first fifteen minutes at which point it switches to closed loop. This means that when in open loop the ECU (engine control unit) uses preset parameters to adjust fuel/air mixture and ignition timing after it switches it begins to read data from the various sensors scattered around the engine if you have trouble sustaing engine speed I would look at maybe the throttle position sensor #1 and the MAP sensor #2 after this look at the CTS (coolant temp sensor) and the oxygen sensor #3&4. Is there a malfunction lighgt on on your dash? (orange light with a picture of an engine on it with lightning). Let me know and we can go from there and I hope it helps. - Paul

QUESTION: Yes there is a malfunction light, but when the engine is running it goes out. Does this help. Where is a good place to take the car so they can let me know what exactly the problem is.

Answer
Hello Paul, if the light goes out then the problem has not manifested itself in the ECU as a fault code so the only reading you might get is a 'snap shot' (as soon as a problem becomes apparent, the ECU takes a 'snap shot' of the situation which can be read by a technician: also called a pending DTC) as for where you would have to let me know where you are so I can do some research in your area because right now I am in Georgia USA - let me know where you are and I will see if I can be of any more help - thanks Paul
