Volkswagen Repair: my voltage regulator, generator light, white stripe

Question
I am on the hunt as to why the generator light stays on in my '66 Ghia - and in doing so have delivered the generator to my generator man - who now wants to check the voltage regulator - I hate to admit that I took a couple of wires off before I stopped and drew a diagram for myself - now I don't know if the yellow wire goes on to the battery or the red wire with the white stripe goes to the battery - at the right corner of the regulator there are two tabs there and the wires are the same size - - duh - can you help me without my having to admit this to my boyfriend??  Thanks - Cyn

Answer
Hi Cynthia;
I can't tell you for sure which wire goes where, because I, too would need the information from a "bibliological" source.  However, I believe I can tell you how to find out without you getting embarrassed.
Get down to your local library, and get the "Bentley's" repair manual out, and it will tell you exactly how to hook up the generator, and which wire goes where.
Honestly, Cynthia, I haven't worked on a 1966 Ghia for several years.  I work on far later models.  But I also have another suggestion, get a couple of notes to take with you to the library, or a simple diagram, and just fill in the blanks while you are there...that way you don't have to pay for their copier, or rely on memory...if you have a digital camera..take a picture of the parts to compare them to the diagrams, because there are different configurations depending on model year, and equipment content.  Good luck.
