Volkswagen Repair: Replacing Glove Box 2000 Jetta GL - CONTINUED, jetta gl, glove box

Question
Finally got a chance to try and replace the glove box door per your answer of 7/12.  I am not able to "pop" off the end cap of the dash so I can get behind and remove the glove box.  The middle of the end cap seems to need a special tool to pop out - or it's a hidden screw.

Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Jeff;
There is probably a bent retainer clip that will either pull off of the tab, or the metal piece that is hung up will simply break off.  It happens a lot when interior parts are removed, and replaced several times.  If the "end cap" has been removed before, and then replaced, the metal retainer clip may have gotten started into the slot, and then bent, as the end cap was adjusted to fit, and now it's just stuck in the "outermost" position it can get bent into.
My recommendation would be to get a "pick," or a "hook" and get under the edge of the end cap where the resistance is the greatest, and give it a good, solid "yank."  Is it right in the middle, basically?  That's the one that I find sticks the most.
Hope this helps you finish the job, Jeff.  Good luck, again!
