Volkswagen Repair: Check Engine light on VW jetta 1998, obd ii scanner, o rielly

Question
VW jetta 1998. My neighbor is a mechanic and  told me the throtle body needed to be change on my jetta, so he did it, but the check engine light sitll on. Then he told me that I have to take it to an specialist that have the scanner to take the light off.
Is this really true?
What would you recommend me to do or what parts do I have to check before I take it to an specialist.

Answer
Jesus, thank you for your question.  An OBD II scanner will reset the check engine light.  It can be done at any Autozone parts supply or O'Rielly's auto supply.  There really is not anything that the “shadetree” mechanic can do to the new electronic filled cars.  It seems like much anymore you have to have a Doctor's degree in automotive engineering to be able to work on them.  Best thing to do is just have the codes check to find out what is going on.
Hope that helps
