Volkswagen Repair: 88 jetta runs bad, coolant temperature sensor, exhaust gaskets

Question
I have an 88 jetta 8v,
I can't start it without stepping on the gas,
When it does start it seems that the second and third cylinders are not firing, I've had a compression test done which came out fine, after replacing the head gasket, Fuel injectors were all checked, spark is good, vacuum lines were all replaced, new exhaust gaskets, new timimg belt, New spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor...
I don't know what else to do.
Oh and I also replaced the MAFS as to a mechanics suggestion, which changed nothing,
I'd appreciate any suggestions,
Thanks

Answer
Does the car run fine after it has warmed up? I am guessing your car is digifant, the most common problem with those is the coolant temperature sensor located on the right side of the head goes bad.  When that happens the computer doesn't know when the engine is cold, to give it extra fuel.  It is cheap to replace and thats what I would start with. Let me know if that doesn't fix it.

Good Luck,
Ryan
