Volvo Repair: volvo v70 firing on 5 cylinders, power steering rack, volvo dealer

Hello, i have a 1999 volvo v70, I took it to Volvo dealer who said I need a new gear box, having had another opinion as I feel in my bones its something else I have been told that the judders  and surges in power are due to one of the cylinders not working. is this reparable are due of the
I've been told I can keep driving the car what are your thoughts? I'm happy if its not a gear box I was about to by a new/used one . can my cylinders get better?

 Adele, even though it's true a misfiring cylinder can cause a "judder" type sensation in the steering wheel, a competent technician should be able to isolate the problem. More likely the power steering rack (gear) is the culprit. Have a pro test drive it and check it out.
