Thanks

ANSWER: Greg, sounds like the small red field wire is broken inside the wiring harness.  I would run a new one from the connection block on the firewall down to the alternator and see if that solves the problem.  Sounds like a big draw on the system.  Let me know what you find out.  Roger

QUESTION: I ran a new red field wire from alternator to connection inside firewall. I still
get the alternator light on even when key is out of car. The alternator light
only goes off when I turn key to on ( oppisite what it should do) or when I
take negetive lead off battery. Your wright about the draw on the system I
have looked over all wires and can not find a short. I also was using
alternators from auto zone and switched to a Bosh but still get the same
results. Help !!!!! Your advise is helpful.

Answer
Greg, Interesting.  Pull the instrument cluster and see if anything is loose.  If all looks good the next test is to find the circuit.  It may be fuse 8 which controls the central locking and other stuff.  Do you know how to perform the draw test to see which circuit is bad?  Roger
