Volvo Repair: cylinder head replacement, serp belt, first timer

Question
QUESTION: I have a 99 s80. My serpentine belt broke while driving. I replaced the belt but now have no compression. I suspect the timing jumped and bent the valves. Is it better to replace the whole cylinder head? If so is it something I should attempt?

ANSWER:    Gael, I'm slightly confused, are you saying that you think the timing belt went first, siezed the motor, causing the serp. belt to break?
A broken serp. belt will NOT affect the timing belt. Unless something bizarre or unusual is gong on?
Much cheaper to repair the head.

QUESTION: Mark,
The timing belt is fine but at TDC the cams are off and I have no compression in any cylinders. What is the procedure for replacing the cylinder head I may just remove it and have it rebuilt. Seems the cheapest way to go.

Answer
Gael, go here and buy a one year subscription for your vehicle. www.alldata.com. It is a complex pricedure for a first timer. If you are clever, you can fabricate the special tools yourself. Good luck. Sounds like your timing belt slipped? Are there any teeth/cogs missing?
