Volvo Repair: parking brake cable, parking brake cable, volvo 960

92 Volvo 960 sedan, indy wheels.
I think I need a new parking brake cable. The volvo shop says 5 hours labor. I have tried to tighten the cable inside the console myself-to brief success then it pops. Should I try to adjust at the wheel? How hard is it to replace and can a very handy person who replaces her own radiators and brakes  be able to handle the job?

Michelle, sorry but the adjustment is only at the parking brake lever.  If you do brakes, you should be able to do this but you have to remove the parking brake shoes to remove the cable for each side.  Personally, I dont use the hand brake on automatic cars so that is my opinion.  Roger
