Volvo Repair: 2000 S40 115K, bosch spark plugs, rear seat area

Question
I have a 2000 S40 with 115K, I've owned it for 4 years and 50k.  I'm not sure of the vehicles history up to 65K, but I have not changed plugs, plug wires, filter, etc.  Only oil changes and brakes.

Check engine light has been on and off for about 2 years.  Some weeks its happy, other weeks it not, but its always reliable.  I can't notice any difference in the cars performance when the light is on as opposed to when its not.

Recently, the cars been idling hard and it misfires once or twice in the first 2 or 3 minutes of it running.  It is also sluggish on the highway between 55-65 and shakes during acceleration at those speeds.  Additionally at startup it doesnt immediatly crank over, but seems to take a few extra seconds to turn over, but it then starts up.

So, I've been thinking Plugs, Plug Wires, Oil filter, and air filter to start.  Would you have any other relatively cheap suggestions for a vehicle with 115k?  Any insights into what might be causing these issues?  And lastly, where would the fuel filter be located?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Bill, major services should be done every 30k miles.  The timing belt and tensioner should have been done at 105k.  Nothing is cheap on the newer Volvos.  What you will notice is there is only 2 wires and 2 coils.  One of the coils may be giving you the  shakes, but I would do the major service first.  Use BOSCH spark plugs.  The fuel filter is located under the drivers rear seat area under the car.  Roger
