Volvo Repair: A/C problems, vacuum servo, compressor cycles

Question
Hi Roger,

The car is a 95' 960.  I just had the a/c system evacuated/recharged. The issue is that at times (when at a stop idleing) the compressor cycles continuously & very fast (click,click,click- 2x per second) and have to shut off the system to stop it.

Also recirc feature stopped working a while back and was wondering if you knew a shortcut to replace the vacuum servo without taking apart the whole dash.  I replaced the dual acting servo at the drivers side footwell last year by cutting a hole in the airbox to gain access so I don't mind getting involved in the job if I can save some $$. (Found shortcut at www.brickboard.com)

Thanks for any help.

Dave

Answer
Dave, How much did they put in?  I have also seen the pressure switch act up on those doing that same thing with cycling.  The recirc servo basically sucks.  I have found the best way to do it is through the case where you take the blower motor out.  you have to pry the door up to get to anything.  I hate that advice to cut a hole in the case.  I have seen that.  It only takes an extra 15 minutes to do it properly and those bozos are telling people to cut the case.  Nice.  As far as this recirc one goes, there isnt much I can tell you but they do suck.  Remove the blower motor and you will see what I mean.  If you do manage to get that thing out, becareful when putting it back on, because those tabs break very easy.  Let me know if I can help you further.  Roger
