Volvo Repair: V70R transmission, v70r, torque converter

Hi Roger,
My 2000 v70R's transmission slipped and I couldn't get it in gear. Sometimes it worked and I was able to limp to my mechanic. Reverse worked for a little while,now my mechanic says it doesn't anymore.

A few days before, my traction stability light came on for a couple of hours, then went away. I don't know if it had anything to do with the tranny problem.

Anyway, now my mechanic says it's dead and I need a new tranny. How can that be? I don't drive the car hard at all, and now after only 75K miles the tranny is dead?
My mechanic didn't say anything about changing the fluid or checking the torque converter.

Should I worry about my mechanic and his diagnosis?

Steve, I would get a second opinion but he is probably correct.  I have had transmissions die on those with less miles than that.  The tracs is something different.  Sorry for the bad news.  These transmissions are good but when the go, they go.  Roger
