Volvo Repair: 1993 Volvo 940 Turbo, 1993 volvo 940, volvo 940

Question
Hi Roger,

I bought my daughters a used 940 and I believe they have blown the engine. Do you think it is worth repairing. It has 250,000 miles on the odometer. It appears it may be more expensive to repair then what I paid for it.
Thanks, Dan

Answer
Dan, Its all a matter of expense.  I look at it this way, Is the car in decent shape?  Is the transmission good?  Personally, its a turbo car and it holds its value for resale.  Used engine with low milage are available for around 6-7 hundred bucks.  A good volvo shop should only charge about 10-15 hours labor plus misc shop supplies/parts/etc.  I have cars come in the shop that people dont want to fix and I get them, fix them up and can resell them if I want.  Its a matter of choice also.  250k is not a lot of milage for a Volvo.  I have seen cars in the shop with 600,000 miles on them and they still perform like new.  Think it over, and if you have anymore questions, please feel free to contact me.  Roger
