Volvo Repair: power window, wood shingle, nylon washer

Question
1989 volvo 240:The passenger side window is down and wont come up[power window].I took off the panel found the motor and cut the wires to the motor and ran a direct wire from the battery post to the motor and it still wont go up.How can i get this window up manually for now.I checked all the switches too.I even used the button on the drivers side.I just need to get the window up.Thank you.

Answer
Dear Tom,
Sorry to hear about the motor wires being cut.....bad plan,Tom.
99.99% of the time windows stop working because.........failed window switches.Honest.
I may have replaced less than 3 window motors....in 30 years...Volvo window motors are made well...same people who make Mercedes-Benz motors.
When testing a window circuit...BOTH DRIVERS WINDOW CONTROL AND ACTUAL DOOR WINDOW CONTROL MUST BOTH BE GOOD SWITCHES...
          Buy window switches online...big savings..
         To get window up...
2 arms connect to glass/metal frame on window.
These arms have weird clips that secure the window's hole to the arms pin....kinda hard area to work in..use small screwdriver to help get clip off...next is nylon washer...then push window holes away from pins on arms...window will now be totally free to raise or fall...use wood shingle to keep window up...wedge it between window and window opening at the bottom...you'll figure it out...
                     Bye,
