Volvo Repair: 87 740 turbo wagon, fuel pump relay, hall effect sensor

Question
Hey Bilbo,
I'm at my wits end here.  Was driving the car when it sputtered once and died.  I noticed the fuel pump wasn't kicking on when I turned on the ignition.  So I checked the  fuse.  That was OK.  Then I checked the relay.  The relay would kick on with the ignition,  but the terminal that feeds the pump never went 12V high. So I jumpered 12V to the terminal and the fuel pump kicked on.  So I figured a bad relay but the new one did the same thing. Well I figured the car should start with 12V jumpered to the fuel pump, but no.  Then I found that I wasn't getting any spark.  So it seems that something controling the ignition and the fuel pump relay is messing up. Or one problem is the cause of the other.  I've replaced the coil
, the ignition control module, and the distributer (i had problems with the hall effect sensor before).  Still nothing.  Possible its the ECU?  The Knock Sensor?  Please help.

Thanx,  Jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff,
Sorry to read about your problem...the reasons could be many...including ECU.... computer that lives in pass.foot area behind the side panel...on right... corroded fuses....either take car to dealer to get diagnosis...or find used parts to exchange your elect.componets..
This kind of prob could keep you guessing....for awhile

                Good luck
