Volvo Repair: ac pressure way too high, volvo 850 turbo wagon, volvo 850

Question
1995 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon. As you know the only valve for the ac is
on the low side.
I was driving yesterday and the ac cut off for an unusually long
time and the air coming out of the vents was very hot. I hooked up
a gauge to the low side (engine idling, but compressor not) and the
pressure was 140 lbs! I pushed in the valve stem to relieve some pressure
but the refrigerant temp coming out was too hot to continue doing that.
What is causing this to be so high I don't just
want to start replacing parts unnecessarily.

Thank you for your help

Answer
Hi JP,
I'd have to take a guess and say....there is a blockage...why else would you have hi press...hot fluid means that it hasn't gone thru the condensor...or circulating as it needs to complete a cycle..
Did you draw down the A/C before adding refridge?
         You should get another opinion.
