Volvo Repair: Volvo 850 T sputtering/stalling, camshaft position sensor, mass airflow meter

Question
thanks Regis

Notice this car HAS had a proper dealer diagnosis---but the faults did not appear within a 3 day test!
Ok I will buy your explanation of the bad speed sensor/cam position sensors for the stalling problem----but the sputtering is so intermittent it will go gangbusters for hours then sputter once or twice then come back to running great for another few hours---as if a little water went thru the injectors--- ? could that be the caprotor and wires?
thanks for your help,  David

Question -
1995 Volvo 850 Turbo 120,000

Problems:
A:  Stalls at at stop sign - Intermittent
B:  Sputters at speed - Intermittent

It might drive fine for 2 days after service then start to sputter at speed maybe 3 seconds one time one day and the next day it might sputter for 3-15 seconds 5-20 times. It feels like split second losses of fuel.

The stalling usually occur?s as you slow to idle before a very slow turn or as you come to a stop sign.

the services performed as follows R&R:
Spark Plugs - Platinum (owner serviced)
Air Filter  (owner serviced)
Mass Airflow Meter - Volvo part  (owner serviced)
Fuel filter - Volvo part (Independent Volvo service)
Battery Connectors (2) (Independent Volvo service)
Vacuum Hoses at turbo release valves (2) (Independent Volvo service)
Relay - Fuel Pump Volvo part (Independent Volvo)
Relay - Fuel Injector Volvo part (Independent Volvo)
Perform fuel pressure test (Volvo Dealer )
Fuel Pump - Volvo part #9480152 9 (Volvo Dealer)
Clean Throttle Body (Volvo Dealer)

the problems persist..........
thanks for any help!

Answer -
it  could be many things.it would really need to be looked at for a proper diagnosis.if I had to guss I would guess either a bad engine speed sensor or bad camshaft position sensor.I would also replace the distributor cap rotor and wires if they are original.

Answer
just because it was at the dealer and had a diagnosis does not mean much.if the problem did not happen for them there is nothing to diagnosis.

as for the sputter yes bad cap rotor or wire will cause this type random sputter.I have replaced many of them for the same type problem.I would replace it all at the same time.
