Volvo Repair: 96 Volvo 850 T Speedo/odom problem, fuse problems, vent area

Question
I am one of allexperts Disney experts but this is my first question! My husband's Volvo started giving him problems on his drive home today. It is a 96 850 Turbo with 210k miles on it. The odometer and speedometer stopped working along with the brake lights, turn signals, etc. He replaced the fuse for the lights and those seem to be working again but the speedomoter and odometer are still not working. No repair work has been done recently other than an oil change in April and a new a/c compressor last fall. Any suggestions? We just had to replace my car (a 97 Volks Passat) and adopted a baby so we cannot afford a big car repair right now! Thanks so much for your helps.

Answer
Hello Sara,  As for the speedo, there is a gear that looses two or so teeth and it needs to be replaced. The guage cluster needs to come out and only a Volvo person should do it.The dashboard drivers sd. needs to be raised but not so far or you'll crack the dash at the center vent area.Speedo heads get sent out to repair shops that do only these repairs.A volvo specialty shop will be of help.A note about the fuse problems, there should of been an accompaning symptom. The back up lites are on the same fuse as turn signals.Something made the fuse blow and that the important thing to know.Thank you and good hunting!  PKD
