Volvo Repair: 1988 Volvo 760 turbo wagon... severe flooding etc, fuel pressure regulator, volvo 760

Question
First of all I'm sorry if this post is a duplicate as when I tried once before to post it I had the famous "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" notice come up just as soon as I hit the "I agree" button.

To begin with my Volvo has had the air mass unit replaced 1 year ago, the fuel pressure regulator or valve replaced 1-1/2 years ago, all of the vacuumm lines 1 year ago, 2 idle control valves within the last year, both fuel pumps within the last year, spark plugs and wires within the last year.

My problem is two-fold... (1) is not living within two hundred miles or more of any mechanic thats familiar with Volvo's. (2) Not having a mechanic in the area that wants to work on one.

Now the latest problem with my car...

I started the car to get the mail (outside air temp just below freezing) I let the car warm up at an idle for about 2 or 3 min and the idle speed was about 900 to 1000 RPM and it was running fine. I drove the car about 2 km and it started to bog down (lose power, miss a bit and little pops every now and again, like small backfires) so I made a "U" turn and headed back home. I noticed at that point that there was a warning light on in the dash cluster of warning lights that looked like a picture of a partially closed choke if one was looking down the throat of a carberator (this warning light is not illustrated in my owners manual so I have no idea what it is warning of). (I have since wondered if it was a turbo warning light). I also noticed that the tachometer was not registering any RPM on it's guage even though the engine was still running even though poorly (it was working when I first started the car though as I always check all guages etc when first starting a car). As I headed home the car lost more and more power puffing black smoke out of the exhaust and there was a strong smell of unburned gas as well. The car stopped running several times but I was able to start it with difficulty (it took much cranking of the engine). When it did start it would not respond to the gas pedal and it took some doing to gain or coax enough RPM to get the car moving and back home. Unlike when the AMM went, this time I could not get the speed up to more than about 5 to 10 kmh before it stalled or flooded out. When finally I got it home I pulled the plugs once it cooled off and they were wet with gasoline.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated as I'm on a permanent dissability pension and cannot afford to have the local mechanics just guess at the problem and start putting parts on the car that are not needed as I think they have done in the past.

Thank you for your time and help.

Answer
sory for late answer website was not working.it really could be many thinmgs if I had to guess I would guess a abad engine coolant temperature sensor.it could sill be a bad airmass meter.I would also check the wiring harness for signs of the insulation coming off and wires shorting out.
