Volvo Repair: OD Relay, hurricane charley, sw florida

Question
Hi Regis,

Wrote last week RE: OD Not Engaging

I pulled the relay, opened and inspected. Could not see any obvious solder joints broken. Reheated a few joints to assure snug. Still no good.

Any way to confirm the relay is the problem before ordering a new one ? They are $50 and I don't want to get one if the proble is something else (solenoid). I have a meter to test voltages across the terminals if there is some way to do that.

Thank you.

Answer
First, sorry for late response.I am in SW Florida and if you do not know we were just hit by  Hurricane Charley Friday and I just got power 30 minutes ago.

use a test light to check for power and ground to the relay and power out when the button is activated and the light goes off.if it has power out it is good.it can be hard to see the solder joints.if you feel the relay is ok listen under the car while some one activates the button and you should hear the solenoid click.
