Volvo Repair: Volvo Brake light switch removal, volvo s90, brake light switch

I have a 1997 Volvo S90 and all of the brake lights are out (bad brake light switch).  I have purchased a new switch, however, I cannot manage to remove the broken one.  Is there a special tool needed?  How is it removed?  Thanks for your help.

First, sorry for late response.I am in SW Florida and if you do not know we were just hit by  Hurricane Charley Friday and I just got power 30 minutes ago.

sounds like a bad switch.there is no special tool needed.it either clips in or has a nut on the other side holidng it on.it is just difficult to get to.
