BMW: 86 bmw 528e, bmw 528e, dead battery

Question
Hi Josh
1st think you for having this web-site!

I noticed the questions about the speedometer but my RPM and MPG meter is not working...it jumped once when i experienced a dead battery.  where is this cable or relay fuse located?  I'm trying to give this beauty a tune up without going to a shop.  It has a strong sounding engine but low power, once it gets going it has a nice cruising speed. i have replaced the temp sensor, plugs and wires.

Thanks

Answer
Terence,
To be honest, I've never worked on a 5-series of that age, so I'm not going to be of much help finding things.

There are several 5-series forums that have great members who are happy to answer questions related to your car.

 www.bimmerforums.com
 www.roadfly.com

Those are a few of the forums that you can use to ask questions.  Go to those websites, and select the forum for 5-series in the year range your car is in... they should help.

As far as performance, this is not a "fast" car to begin with.  Remember, the engine in that car (M20) is the same engine that is used in the lighter 3-series.  Even in the 3-series this motor wasn't a "performance" engine.  It was made to get good fuel economy (hence the "e" in 528e).  That motor should make about 120hp with close to 200lb/ft of torque.

It's a great engine, but when put in a vehicle that weighs 1000lbs more it dampens the performance some.

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
