BMW: Drivers side heating in passenger compartment, coolant level, vacuum type

Question
Josh,
My BMW is a 740iL 2001 Sport Package.  I've had it just a couple of days now and related to the heat issue is that there is a "vacuum" type noise that is fairly loud and obvious when the fan is on (driver compartment fan for the heat).  I took it back to the dealer and he said that with the new radiator - the coolant may still be pushing air out of the hoses/lines and thus the loud vacuum noise (the noise goes away when I turn the fan/climate control totally off so it's not the engine), but I don't think the coolant level or whatever is the problem because it's full and I've been driving it for a lot of miles already.  I can't even drown-out that vacuum noise with the stereo on loud.  So any thoughts or help is welcome.   Thanks!  BTW, the "Service Engine Soon" light came on about 20 minutes after driving it off his lot and again he said it may be related to the new radiator.  Tom

Hi,
The driver's side heat doesn't seem to be working.  The radiator was just replaced and we went on a long trip... the passenger side climate control was fine, heat worked.  The driver's side does not work even if set all the way up to 90 degrees, it's still cool.  Help!?

Tom, I'll try to help, but I need to know what kind of car you own Make/year/model.

I can possibly help more with that information

 Thanks
 Josh

Answer
Tom,
The coolant still could be an issue.  I know that once the coolant is drained from the system, air replaces this coolant in the system.  When you refill the system, some air pockets remain, and dont allow coolant to cool that spot, and they create steam in the system.  I would leave the heat on full blast and drive it around... if there is air in the system then it will likely flush it out.
Also I think those newer systems have electronic valves that allow the hot coolant to enter the heater core in the dash... one of these valves might be stuck/faulty and not allowing coolant to flow into the driver's side.  Have a mechanic check this out as well.

Since I'm no expert on the later model cars, that's about all I can offer at this time.

Hope you get your problem fixed.
